Thanks to @markkellyphoto for setting up his gear today to take my pic as a new member of @artistsoftheroundyard.
I am immersed in developing new work for our group show, ‘X Pollination’ opening October in this fab Round Yard space as well as the gallery at Retford Park, Bowral, Gundungurra Country @nationaltrustnsw.

Basin designs
Ideas for X Pollination
Encounters in my studio between a heat warped galvanized basin salvaged from a bushfire, a vintage French fireman’s canvas bucket and shellacked cardboard templates for making containers from slabs of clay inspired this series of conic frustum basin forms. My studio move to Sutton Forest was still in progress when the Sydney Covid 19 Delta variant Lockdown set in. With my electric kilns stranded in Sydney, necessity prompted me to explore malleable materials other than clay. I set to work with compass and protractor and my box of water colours to design new templates and create a series of patterns to paint onto these hybrid objects, cut, sewn and glued from canvas, book binders muslin and paper. They sit somewhere between Tondos and pots: round things for the Round Yard. A cross pollination between materials, processes, circumstances and site arose from this ‘Challenge of Constraints’(1).
Thanks to Chris Ward for conic section formulae and Fiona Holley for machine sewing.
1. Note: ‘The Challenge of Constraints’ is my favorite chapter in E H Gombrich, The Sense of Order, a study of the Psychology of Decorative Art.
